Week Five – Lochmoor, Great Oaks & BAC Olympics

June 23, 2024

Hi Shark Families,

Many thanks to extend. Way to bring it to Tuesday’s meet against CCD. Thank you to all of our volunteers. Thank you to all our fans for the support. Thank you to our Sponsors.Thank you to our Sharks for embracing their Buddy roles. And thank you to these swimmers for giving it their all. So many times were beat from the Blue & White meet. The incredible effort and roaring cheer for the night’s last event, the Boy’s Free Relay embodied Shark Summer Swimming.

Thank you to all for getting kids to their morning after meet photos. We, like you, are excited to see the green screen technology come together. We got a sneak peek at the Senior banners and they look great! Keep your eye out for those at the club soon.

The YMCA’s Detroit Swims program is a grant and donor-funded program that teaches water safety skills to disadvantaged and/or underserved communities regardless of barriers. The participation fee will be $20 with the proceeds going to Detroit Swims.

BAC Olympic events will include everything from a penny toss, to biggest bubble, to paper airplanes and dive and glide. Bring swim suits and sneakers

NOTE: Jaws and Hammerheads will have practice as normal. Tigersharks and Fins will not have practice on 6/29.

STROKE CLINICS

Does your swimmer want to work on their stroke technique, starts or maybe their turns? The best opportunity to do this is in a Stroke Clinic led by our coaches. The clinics give swimmers an opportunity to get more personalized help on their stroke technique with a 5:1 athlete to coach ratio max. These are valuable experiences for the swimmers a proper technique is key to improving. There are available spots this week. Cost is $25/session.

COACHES’ CORNER – Coach Paul

Trophies and Memories. Eventually the swim season ends, whether for the summer or for the
last time at the end of your career. You’ll earn ribbons, medals, trophies. But it won’t just be the
medals and records that you remember. It will be the relationships and friendships you made
along the way. It will be your teammates you remember. It will be the role models when you’re 6
years old looking up at a 16-year-old thinking they are the coolest person in the world.

Peter Vanderkaay, two-time Olympic gold medalist, said “The medals will be in a box someday,
or may even in a case under glass. What you will always take with you is the memories of the
incredible friends and teammates you make along the way.”

When it comes to our success, it takes the entire team. It takes parents, siblings, and athletes.
Everyone needs to support our fellow sharks. When we compete against another club, every
swim, every race, every swimmer competing in an older age group are what propels us to
success. Competition amongst teammates is a good thing. It helps us raise our level and makes
us better, but when we are competing against another club, it is the BAC, the SHARKS, versus
the opponent. Rooting for all your teammates to be successful is what helps us win as a team.
Be a supportive teammate. Be a supportive friend. Be a SHARK!

And remember, those medals will collect dust. The memories are what you can’t buy or earn.

Sharks ROCK!
