Coach’s Corner

Hello, Sharks and Shark Families!

We are one week in the books and we had GREAT turnouts at practice. There are a few things I want to highlight as we head into our second week. We have a young team but, we are still capable of great things. The list of things we need to do to be great is very long but, a few items we can all do right now to start us on the best path towards success are simple.

  1. Do things a little better every day. Big, drastic improvements are few and far between. Pick one thing to be awesome at every day and nail it!
  2. The details matter. Those little things like a tight streamline off the turn, keeping your head down at the finish are easy things to do well in practice. Do them well in practice, you’ll do them well in competition.
  3. Don’t be afraid to fully commit. Top level swimmers do what they say they are going to do. When you fully commit to something, a funny thing happens. Your world seems to bend around your goal in order to make it come to fruition.
  4. Be the teammate you want to have. Some of my best memories from swimming aren’t best times or records. While they are nice, a word of encouragement from an older swimmer, my teammates cheering me on are the moments that matter the most in the long run. Be that teammate regularly.
  5. Have fun. Improving is fun. Challenging your limits is fun. Pushing teammates to levels they never thought capable is fun. Take time to enjoy the opportunity you have every day being part of the BAC Sharks.

This past week we saw some classic Michigan weather. 85 one day, 60 the next, rain, sun, wind. As a reminder to everyone, we will send out a notification if and when practice is cancelled.

We will cancel practice for a few reasons:

These include if it is raining hard and we are unable to see the bottom of the pool, thunder and lightning, or if there is a mechanical issue.  In these cases, we will send out a notification through Commit.

SHARKS ROCK!

SWIM MEET SIGN-UP

As we head into the summer season, we’ll begin inviting swimmers to upcoming meets through Commit. When you receive an invite, just head to your dashboard in Commit and click either “Attend Meet” or “Decline Meet” to let us know your availability.

I recommend responding to each invite as soon as you receive it—it’s easy to forget and miss the deadline otherwise! 🙃

For reference, please see the screenshot below.

FIN PRACTICE TIME SIGN-UP

Practice time sign-up will be available next week in Commit. We realize people are eager to get their summer schedules in place, thank you in advance for your understanding and patience.

PARENT JOB SIGN-UP

Volunteering is the key to our team’s success. We ask that each family sign up for one job. Some of you have asked questions about what each of these “jobs” do. Kelly Groth, our meet chair, has kindly put together a job information sheet. THANK YOU, KELLY!

🦈NEW THIS SEASON: The club has generously offered to award a free drink ticket to any parent who signs up for more than one job. Drink tickets can be redeemed upon your arrival of each additional job session. Drink tickets can be used at Shark events where alcohol is served. Tickets can be picked up at the awards table during meets.
