Coach’s Corner
To follow up from our discussion last week and again this week, I think it’s important to talk about the fundamentals. In the men’s 100 breaststroke at the Paris Olympics,
- Gold – 59.03
- Silver – 59.05
- Silver (Tie) – 59.05
- Fourth place – 59.11
- Fifth place – 59.30
- Sixth place – 59.32
Less than 0.3 seconds between gold and 6th place. The little things have an oversized impact in the pool.
- A tighter streamline
- Gold medal finish
- Flags + 1
- Under water past the flags
- Outside in finishes.
All of these fundamentals add up. They compound across each stroke and lap in the pool. A mindset on the hunt for improving the simple, basic fundamentals is a championship mindset everyone can benefit from.
SHARKS ROCK!
Coach Paul

SWIM MEET SIGN-UP
As we head into the summer season, we’ll begin inviting swimmers to upcoming meets through Commit. When you receive an invite, just head to your dashboard in Commit and click either “Attend Meet” or “Decline Meet” to let us know your availability.
I recommend responding to each invite as soon as you receive it—it’s easy to forget and miss the deadline otherwise! 🙃
For reference, please see the screenshot below.
FIN PRACTICE TIME SIGN-UP
FIN practice time sign up is officially open in commit. Please sign up under the jobs tab.
PARENT JOB SIGN-UP
If you haven’t had a chance to sign up, please do while a few spots are still available! Some of you have asked questions about what each of these “jobs” do. Kelly Groth, our meet chair, has kindly put together a job information sheet. THANK YOU, KELLY!
🦈NEW THIS SEASON: The club has generously offered to award a free drink ticket to any parent who signs up for more than one job. Drink tickets can be redeemed upon your arrival of each additional job session. Drink tickets can be used at Shark events where alcohol is served.
