We powered through two dual meets and a 9–10 mini meet, all while braving the heat and rain. A huge thank you to our amazing parents for your support during this busy stretch. Special shout out to the BAC Staff, Laura Shullman, and Kelly and Christian Groth for going above and beyond making these Shark experiences JAWSOME!
We’re gearing up for another action-packed week, so please be sure to read through this post for important details.
Ideally this week, we want the kids to rest and stay out of the heat if possible. It’s going to be a hot one. Remember to stay hydrated—water and electrolytes are essential! You don’t want to try to hydrate AFTER you’re already dehydrated.
If you get a chance, take a look at the meet results posted in Commit. All the swim nerds will love the new analytics and data export abilities in Commit!
Starting Monday, it’s SHARK WEEK! 🦈Each day, we’ll be doing something fun and purposeful to sharpen our skills and strengthen team bonds. (Details below!)

Coach’s Corner
Hello, Sharks!
In these posts, I’ve talked about a variety of things including consistency. Not only do we need to be consistent, we need to train at a high level to see those big improvements. Understanding what ‘high level’ means can be confusing. Katie Ledecky, the greatest distance freestyler in history, said ‘Strive for excellence, not perfection.’ But wouldn’t it make sense that we want to be perfect all the time? The perfect race, the perfect strategy, the perfect practice.
A swimmer who chases excellence views workouts, races, and meets as a set of learning opportunities. Constantly testing, learning, and refining allows us to learn what works well, what doesn’t, and how to improve.
A swimmer who chases perfection sets excessively high standards and is hyper-critical when those standards aren’t met. Bad practice? They are terrible, they won’t improve. Great practice? It wasn’t good enough. All those things that should have been better.
By chasing excellence, we engage in our process of training and competing rather than solely focus on the outcomes. Excellence provides us with the opportunity for long term growth and success.
Sharks ROCK!
Coach Paul
Practice Schedule
Standard Practice times apply unless noted below. Specifically, Tuesday and Saturday!
Corsan Challenge Charity Event June 28 10:00-11:30
For a good cause and for good old competitive fun.
We will conclude our Shark Week with the Corsan Challenge. The Corsan Challenge is an annual fundraiser MICSA members participate in to support YMCA’s Detroit Swims. The YMCA’s Detroit Swims program is a grant and donor-funded program that teaches water safety skills to disadvantaged and/or underserved communities regardless of barriers. A portion from our Blue and White Raffle proceeds will be donated to YMCA’s DETROIT SWIMS. Events will include everything from a penny toss, to the biggest bubble, to paper airplanes and dive and glide. Bring swimsuits and sneakers.
NOTE: Jaws and Hammerheads will have practice as normal. All Tigersharks and Fins are invited to come to the Corsan Challenge, this will be their Saturday practice!

TEAM Photo Information
Photos will start at 9 on Tuesday. Breakfast will start at 10:15a. We’ve broken out the schedule by swim group (Please see Shark Week Flyer). Please make sure your child has their team suit and team t-shirt.
We are working with Visual Sports Network. If you would like an individual photo (or with family or friends), these will be taken poolside. VSN does not do one big team photo. They use green screen technology. Each coach and swimmer will have their photo taken in front of a green screen in the dining room. These individual photos will be used to compile a team photo. TEAM T-SHIRTS WILL BE WORN FOR THIS PHOTO. A QR code will be given to each family to order pictures. Following photos, we will have a team breakfast in the dining room. Breakfast will start at 10:15a. Cost is $10.50 per swimmer.
