Coach’s Corner

Hello, Sharks!
We are off to a great start in the pool! With school and spring sports ending, we are starting to see more familiar faces around the club. At this point in the season, one of the most important things to highlight, which leads to success at the end of the season, is consistency.
Consistency in swimming can be challenging. Each workout brings something different, fatigue levels change week to week, and we are constantly looking for improvements in our times.
So how can we make our training more consistent? ‘Gamify’ it by using streaks. Streaks can help overcome low motivation, build better habits, and can even make you better in your training!
To make this work, set up clear rules about what counts towards your streak (ex. attending the entire practice for your group). Track your streak (ex. log how many days per week you attend practice). Bounce back using a new streak when slip-ups happen (it’s your job to get back in the saddle when this happens). This is why so many apps use streaks to improve consistency and promote better results. Greater consistency = greater results!
One reminder for those who are interested in moving up a training group: This will be conducted the week of 6/15. You must attend at least 4 of 6 practices in YOUR CURRENT GROUP.  As I mentioned in the parent meeting at the Kickoff Party, the difference between 15 minutes of swimming versus an hour daily for an entire week is very different.  We want to provide our Sharks an opportunity to demonstrate their skills over the course of a week so they are appropriately placed and can continue to improve week over week.
Sharks Rock!
